Garcia Marquez seemed more interested in Rushdie's opinion on his journalistic output rather than his literary creations, which took the author of "Midnight's Children" by complete surprise.

Grimus (band) - Wikipedia

Salman Rushdie's celebrated debut novel remains as powerful and as haunting as when it was first published more than thirty years ago. Not convenient in the sense that the characters all get off scot free quite the opposite in fact but in that it provides a nice little bookend, and everyone kind of accidentally gets what they want.

My favorite Rushdie book, not as frenetic or as grand in scale as his later works, but strange, trippy, and deeply funny.

Amazon Second Chance Pass it on, trade it in, give it a second life. May 28, Chili rated it it was ok Shelves: Rushdie never lacked for imagination, and it is ample evidence here. After reading "The Tiger's Wife" and being recovering from that disappointment, I found great comfort reading "Grimus: So, while this is a fun book, it takes a bit of concentration, more than it initially seemed to require anyway.

If this is what Salman Rushdie manages to write straight out What an incredible book for a first work! But the words, the writing style someone might say: I keep my fingers crossed. I really enjoyed the way Rushdie combined the mythologies of so many cultures into this book. She is a grossly ugly petite hunchback and he is an obese lunatic genius.

Now that book would make anyone want to explore more Rushdie. Grimus by Salman Rushdie.

Grimus by Salman Rushdie

I wonder why he chose this genre for his first outing. In retrospect, starting with Rushdie's first novel, Grimus, and one the author himself has spoken ill of, may not have been the most prudent way to experience the work of a storied novelist.

While on a visit to Mexico City, Carlos Fuentes put Rushdie in contact with Garcia Marquez solitudee telephone, the closest contact he was to have with the Colombian author. I guess everyone has to start somewhere, right?

A remarkably assured beginning for a first book. Magical realism when done right can unlock the surprisingly deep dimensions of the mind - things that you've never thought of, corners you've never explored and interpretations you've never considered.

I have to say though, that even though this is a novel that I ended up not liking, sllitude are a few redeeming factors I'd like to talk about. Flapping Eagle is a craven and nasty piece of work, so there's no inclination whatsoever to see him succeed. It's difficult to summarize the plot exactly because Grimus is less about what happens as it is about the people it happens to and the reactions of all the other characters to the spectre of Flapping Eagle as he moves destructively in and through their lives.

In fact, it's so horribly foreshadowed, that I don't believe what happened in the end.

Salman Rushdie says he's loved Garcia Marquez's work since 1975

The Moor's Last Sigh. This is a mess. I typically take delight in non-sensical reads. I hold up it's frequent visions of interstellar consciousness, centuries old wanderings and a beautiful conclusion, as the molecules of an immortal world finally alter, as the pieces of Grimus that touched me.
